Ariel Bauer, a brilliant computer programmer working on her Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley, doesn’t think she can get into any trouble when she agrees to run a systems test for her thesis advisor.

But the systems test is a virus, and the FBI is called in to investigate.

Sam MacAteer is an agent with the FBI’s Computer Intrusion Squad, recently transferred from the agency’s organized crime division. Reeling from the murder of his twin brother, MacAteer has become harsh, unforgiving, and abusive. Especially to suspects.

Especially to Ariel Bauer.

When the Computer Intrusion Squad is called on to unravel mysterious electronic voting irregularities in the national primaries, only one person can help them in time. But Bauer’s in prison, serving a maximum sentence. MacAteer made sure of that.

The FBI must discover who’s gaining control of the presidential elections—and stop them. Can MacAteer overcome his lust for vengeance to get answers? Because this time, there’s no margin for error.

Joanne is meant to be writing a report for her boss at work but she is struggling to finish it; Bob keeps working on a number of projects at once, but finds it difficult to concentrate on them for any period or time; Wayne is upset because he has just had a huge fight with his wife and he doesn't know why it happened; Julie feels anxious and uncertain when she goes down town in her lunch break and Marcia can never seem to straighten her house or remember if she had made dinner for the family. If you are going through anything similar in your life then you, like the people above could suffer from ADD or ADHD.

Although typically viewed as a children's condition more and more adults are being diagnosed with the ADD or ADHD every year. Some studies estimate that one in five American adults is impacted by ADD/ADHD to varying degrees. In many cases adults will have experienced difficulties in school and social situations but were not diagnosed or may have been misdiagnosed with something like Bi-polar disorder, depression, manic depression, and anxiety or anger issues. Now these people are adults trying to cope with the added pressures that come with adult life and that is plain not easy to do!

My hope is that this book will not only be read by adults who are confused about why their life, work and relationships aren't going the way they intended but also by people who are in a relationship with someone who has ADD or Adult ADHD, or perhaps works with people who are more creatively inclined than deadline driven. Two of my three step-children were diagnosed, one with ADD and one with ADHD. I bought them up from ages 4 and 10 respectively, through into adulthood and I am very proud of both of them not so much for what they have achieved, but of how they cope with the issues of daily life. They have not had a hassle free journey and there are some things that are never going to be easy for them. But the great thing about ADD or ADHD in adults is that we do have more understanding of why we do the things we do - or we do when we get the answers to the right questions."

Scarlet Rose, the once remarkably beautiful, queen of the burlesque scene in 1960s Toronto, has aged into a decrepit bitter alcoholic, living on welfare and her daughter’s handouts—a daughter she forced into the adult entertainment industry at the age of sixteen to support the family. Now in 1983, Scarlet’s wealthy ex-husband has been found tortured and murdered in a hotel room, and her twenty-two-year-old daughter Fiona, must help the police find the killer.

While Fiona navigates her way through the dark recesses of her family’s history, uncovering shocking secrets that threaten to destroy her, Scarlet Rose employs the skills she learns in Sun Tzu’s The Art Of War, fixating on making a new life for herself using other people’s money. But when she befriends a lonely American woman sitting on an inheritance, greed that knows no bounds, cold-blooded murder and identity theft, might just prove to be Scarlet’s undoing.

THE POLICE KNOW EVERYTHING is a 55,000-word collection of 22 short stories about life on the coast of Maine by a native. The book has been a small press best-seller for over 30 years.

Now in its 16th printing, it has been taught in courses at Harvard, the University of Maine, Bowdoin College, Syracuse University, and many other northeastern colleges and schools.

As Phippen's former student, John Hubbard, who became a journalist himself, once wrote in the ONEIDA DAILY DISPATCH: "This combination of sensitivity and humor is a rare gift but it is Phippen's in abundance. He might laugh at life's absurdities but he also loves the people in these stories." You will, too.
